Animals on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica

Both of the two species of iguanas are commonly seen on the Nicoya Peninsula:

The Green Iguana on the right picture can become up to 2 metres long which makes it the largest iguana in America. Besides vegetables they also eat insects, small animals and carrion.

The brownish-grey Black Iguanas are vegetarians. Costa Ricans call them garrobos or gallina de palo - tree chicken in English - because their meat is said to taste like chicken.

Geckos are cute little room mates and very useful as they chase a lot of insects.

Don't move their eggs which you find hidden in shelves or corners as otherwise it will not hatch any more (like those on the spoon).
